The feet are a critical part of the Body Map that can reveal hidden messages. This course teaches spa therapists the basics about the Eastern philosophy of health and how to work the meridians of the body through reflexology. In addition, students will learn how to work with the body's glandular systems via the feet to help clients feel better.

Pre-natal Massage

Pregnancy is an extraordinary time for a woman and handling her body properly as she brings her baby to term is of the utmost importance. In Pre-natal Massage students come to understand the parts of a woman's body that are more sensitive and even vulnerable during pregnancy. They will learn why certain areas of the body such as the lower back and abdominal region require special attention and how to massage those areas to alleviate stress and tension. Therapists will also learn to perform gentle effleurage movements over the pregnant belly plus a simple, at-home regimen of light circular motions that they can share with their clients. Finally, the sideline massage - designed for women four or more months pregnant that cannot and should not lie on their stomach - will be demonstrated.

Lymph Drainage Massage for the Body

Lymph Drainage Massage for the Body is a course designed to share the basic concept of lymphatic drainage massage as it relates to the body. Students will learn the following: where the lymph nodes are located within the body and what purpose they serve in relation to the immune and circulatory systems, how to stimulate an internal cleansing process by performing massage movements toward these nodes, and why it should not be combined with other forms of massage. Finally, therapists will be taught to recognize those conditions that they should not attempt to treat with lymphatic drainage massage and when clients should be turned over to a medical expert for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Shiatsu
Theory and Demonstration
Duration: 1 day, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Class Tuition: $195

In Shiatsu, students will learn the basic theory behind this ancient art and how it relates to the body's internal organs. Body therapists will expand their understanding of the human system as they learn to: therapeutically work the meridians by applying pressure to several specific points on the body and perform shiatsu by massaging the body according to the laws of the Yin and Yang. Finally, a demonstration of a shiatsu back massage will be performed as the healing effects of this massage art form are revealed.
